In the Fall of 2012, a dream was born in a small office in Tyler, Texas. The idea: bring together the best in Texas barbecue and Texas/Red Dirt Music to Downtown Tyler.
On May 3, 2014, that dream became a reality.
Now having celebrated its fifth anniversary, the Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival has proven itself to be one of the most premier and unique music and food experiences in Texas. The festival takes place on the brick streets of the downtown square in Tyler every May, featuring more than 20 of the most celebrated barbecue restaurants in Texas. Music happens for nearly 12 hours on two stages, with the main stage highlighting the biggest names in Texas and Red Dirt Music.
Barbecue joints from as close as Tyler and as far as Amarillo converge on the Rose City to showcase their smoked meats to thousands of barbecue enthusiasts, while thousands more pour onto the brick streets for the concert.
Festival headliners have been (in order): Randy Rogers Band, Josh Abbott Band, The Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Johnson and Aaron Watson. Other notable acts have included Whiskey Myers, Stoney LaRue, JB and the Moonshine Band, William Clark Green, Wade Bowen, Cody Canada & The Departed, Pat Green, Koe Wetzel and many more.
The fifth edition of the festival sold 5,000 tickets in less than 48 hours, record time for fans to experience 25 of the best barbecue joints in Texas and see Aaron Watson, Pat Green, Koe Wetzel, Josh Weathers and Read Southall Band on stage.
Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival celebrated its sixth anniversary on May 4, 2019 and set another record for a sellout — this time in three-and-a-half hours. The 2019 festival featured 25 of the best BBQ joints in Texas and a music lineup of Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, Stoney LaRue, American Aquarium, and Mike and the Moonpies.
